Hi Alberto;

Thanks for the link, which is new to me. I had a look at their announcement two (?) months ago.

I can guarantee that it will not work with Astro IIDC or any other Mac software without modification.

Yes it does not need a driver to talk to the device, at least according to the document. It should show up as a HID (Human Interface Device), which is the same as a keyboard or mouse or any device used for humans communicating with a USB device on a PC. That's a real "stretch" as far as  perverting a class device goes, but the GPUSB was done that way too.

However you still have to know what HID switches to flip to control the device, and I have not seen any information on that (just searched the web). So the only thing this does is obviate the need for a private class driver for it.

Secondly, once that hurdle is overcome, we all have to write the code that controls the prism movements and also handle the case where the mirror can move no further as it's beyond the limits. Once you come close to the edge (which is about less than 27 arc seconds)  you have to move the mount. So unless your mount is really tracking very well, this becomes more difficult to handle.

And I'm not saying it's impossible, but we still need Orion to provide the HID control codes and then figure out how to do it. And I can't afford to plunk down $2200 CDN (exchange rate + taxes) on an experiment, so unless someone is going to provide me with one for several months for testing, it's pretty unlikely to happen any time soon.

It will be real interesting to see how well it works in subzero (-30°C) weather too.

Hope that clarifies things..

Interesting,

it seems controlled by a standars autoguide port.

I quickly watched the PDF instructions.

If i well understood with AstroIIDC + the GPUSB interface it should be OK.

Hopefully  Milton could confirm that...

cheers
