According to the 2008 Scorpion Tech manual, there were 6 scorpion models including these 3:
13FF
03KD
13SM
which were discontinued a while back.
Smallest ccd pixel size was 4.4 and largest 9.9 microns.

Hi Alan.
Since the Scorpions, DragonFly and Flea are discontinued, the information for them is no longer on PGR web site.
It depends on which Scorpion model your using. The CCD is different in each model. Jim Chung picked up a second hand Scorpion with 9.9 micron pixels.
Yes, that would be one of the sizes. The getting started manual shows three models and three chip options:
03SO - 9.9 micron (658x494
14SO - 4.65 micron (1392x1040)
20SO - 4.4 micron (1600x1200)
but perhaps the chips and specifications changed during the run of these now discontinued cameras.

Hi Milton,
Also discontinued Scorpions have small pixels (3.65 microns), so they don't gather a lot of light. They likely are good for Solar or Lunar, but are not all that sensitive for long focal length planetary or DSO. I've commented many times on this list in the past the difference that CCD Pixel Size has for sensitivity.
The documentation I have shows the pixel size on the Scorpion 20SO at 4.4 microns - is there a model with a smaller pixel size?
thanks,
Alan

Terry,
I checked that seller again just now & it seems he has no more 2nd hand Point Grey Research cameras for sale. I quickly entered this companies` name in the Search box & couldn`t find any listings either. PGR cameras are 16 bit (I have a Flea 2 & the Scorpion bought on eBay) but are quite expensive new. My Flea 2 which is 640 x 480 pixels was about $1400 last May. The Scorpion which is now discontinued is 1600 x 1200 pixels..The firewire types here are supported by Milton..
They`re excellent cameras!
Mark.

So the Grasshopper is a contender.
What about the cameras that have been purchased off of e-Bay recently? It seems to me they were a larger format and 16 bit?
