I'll second Alan with one caveat. Four years with a webcam got me familiar with the process of digital astrophotography and with my equipment. Replacing a Toucam Pro with a Scorpion, a more sensitive, 12-bit monochrome CCD and a higher resolution, AND replacing K3CCD with AstroIIDC allowed me to take better pictures from the get-go. I've got many years to go with the Scorpion, and a "better" camera wouldn't be nearly the change I've already made. My next step is actually using the filter wheel and filters I've bought and making RGB images.
