Subject: Re: Jupiter impact flash!!

Hi Tim;

Thanks for the news flash.

We'll have to start calling Anthony "Mr. Jupiter".

I'd love to see Jupiter but it's only 20° above the horizon at 5 am near Sunrise.

TTYL..

Anthony Wesley has done it again, this time imaging an impact flash on Jupiter!!

Here's the alert I received from John Rogers a while ago:

Hi all,

Anthony Wesley in Australia reports seeing a very bright flash on Jupiter lasting several seconds at 20:31 UT this evening.  All observers in Europe or east coast America, if you can observe the planet late tonight, please take a look and see if an impact scar has appeared!

The CML of his raw image (link below) is:

C.M.:   300.1°    34.1°   210.6°

So the region should be visible from about 04:00 to 06:30 UT (June 4).

See the attached image of a large fireball on Jupiter this morning, the

fireball lasted a couple of seconds and was very very bright :-)

More info to come later, but there was no visible remains at the impact

point for the next half hour or so, until sunrise put an end to the imaging.

cheers, Anthony
