Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Shortcut

Tobias ;

The only window that can initiate grab frame or record movies with a HI device (i.e. mouse, track pad keyboard etc.)  is from the Control window. The Grab frame button is already tied to the return key, but the window HAS to be front most or the key stroke does not get sent to the correct window. That IS following Apples HI recommendations for how a Mac application is supposed to work with a HI device . If the correct window is not frontmost, then it does not receive key strokes and it will not receive the message.

To access Grab or Record movie regardless of which window (Control or Image) is frontmost, you need to use an AppleScript.  There is already support for both grabbing and recording movies, so that's how it is supposed to be done.

Lastly it would be absolutely Chaotic to do otherwise from a key stroke. Imagine your opening a file to import for image processing within Astro IIDC. The "Open File" window is frontmost , and you hit the return key and suddenly you've started recording video from the camera. The output has to be directed to the correct window and the way we specify the correct one is by bringing that window to the front. Otherwise it will cause all sorts of weird erratic behavior and that doesn't benefit my customers.

Hope that explains things.

Hi,

I just tried the latest alpha version of Astro. I am very disappointed, there is still no shortcut for grabbing frames or recording movies. I control Astro with a foot switch. It happens so often, that I forget to put the control window to the front. I have to repeat all photographs.

A shortcut is such a small and appropriate change.
