Subject: Re: Astro IIDC 40606 Beta 1 Available

Hi Folks;

If anyone has turned up any bugs in the "4.06.06 Beta 1" released last week, I'd like to know about them soonest. I hope to be releasing beta 2 tomorrow and I'd prefer solving any issues now rather than later.

Also there will be a bit more of a boost to image processing to by about 2 times as fast for x86 Mac with the "Core 2 Duo" or higher (i.e. i3, i5 or i7) processors in Beta 2. I finally found a combination of SSE instructions that approximate the Altivec Permute instruction for doing RGB48 / LRGB46 de-interleave and re-interleave, however it can only be used if your x86 Mac has a Core 2 Duo or higher processor.

If you have "Core Duo" processor (like my old x86 Mac Mini) that don't support the 12 supplemental SSE instructions, then Astro IIDC will use the slower scalar versions of these routines.

PS:

Hope your weather is better than mine (20 cm of wet snow last night, and more snow / rains / sleet for the next 5 days, and 10°C below normal temperature highs).
