Nice shots considering the weather. I haven't even looked at Saturn this season.


I do tend to agree that subtle features are better represented in 16 bit versus 8 bit. The deeper the bit depth, the more likely you are to pull out subtle features and details. I think a 16 bit camera when imaging Venus or Mercury with narrow band filters will make a big difference over 8 bit cameras for teasing out subtle details.


If it ever stops snowing (had 20 cm on thursday, 10 cm on saturday and at least 15+cm so far on sunday) I might actually get to image something with the new AT8RC scope.

Still pursuing Saturn for this apparition but weather is none too cooperative.  Seeing was good, just not great.  I reduced the number of frames grabbed and I think the storm band is sharper as a result.  16bit data seems to also improve detail vs 8 bit but not a definitive conclusion.
