Alan,

Excellent teaser image and tips!

Quoting Alan Friedman <alan@greatarrow.com>:

A couple of things that can help when it is necessary to work from a single frame:

1. shoot with 0 gain (brightness)

2. apply a mild gaussian blur before sharpening (in photoshop) - .6 pixel radius works well for me.

When using Astro IIDC to capture and process data from the solar disk in Ha, it can help to increase the gamma by a sizable amount (1.5 or greater)... this will give the program something to "hold onto" in terms of image contrast for alignment and stacking.

I haven't had time to work on my data from yesterday, but here is a quick stack from one of the files.

This is my 1600x1200 Scorpion camera with an ROI selection of 600x800 pixels.

cheers,

Hi Milton,

I have no idea where "matt carmine" came from, must be a Yahoo thing.

I actually stacked about 40 of the best frames with AstroIIDC.

Usually this doesn't work at all with solar images but I guess seeing

was so stable that sharp individual frames did not differ greatly from

each other. This allowed me to apply a little sharpening which is not

possible at all on single frames.
