Subject: Astro IIDC Lion compatibility and 4.06.06 beta update news

Hi Folks;

I would strongly caution you all to wait before upgrading (?downgrading?) to Lion / 10.7.x and expecting Astro IIDC to just "work" with it. Permissions have changed rather drastically in Lion and that likely will causes all sorts of issues for installers, preference files and components things.

Apple is notorious for breaking things after they ship their Golden Master version for "final testing" to developers and then the version they sell online (it's only available from the Apple Store as a ~5 gigabyte download) can be significantly different. I have been burned by this in the past many times.

So we will not start testing with Astro IIDC and ancillary software until after it officially ships. Also, because it requires a Core 2 Duo or higher, the number of Macs we have for testing has been reduced again and there is no money in my budget for purchasing new Mac models.

There will likely one more beta (v4) release of Astro IIDC 4.06.06 and then I will wait until Lion ships to finnish off my testing before doing the 4.06.06 final release.

Lastly, I have decide it simply is now worth the development time to add in Spectrometry support in Astro IIDC. First off, only 3 people were interested in it.  Secondly, when I asked for example images for preliminary testing last week, no one responded back. So it's not going to happen in version 4.x.

TTYL..
