Subject: Re: Thunderbolt ExpressCard/34

Just as follow up to this.

I had a look at their USB 3 Express card ($70) and please read the fine print before buying it.

They only support USB 3 speeds with it for their own devices (i.e. hard drives / Raid Array etc.). All other USB 3 devices will be at USB 2 speed.

So the only benefit would be that you now have up to 2.5 watts of power available - which would be enough power to run the PGR USB 3 Cameras, but no speed benefit.

Hi Folks;

I just saw this PR release from Sonnet:

http://www.sonnettech.com/product/echoexpresscard34thunderbolt.html

It provides a "ExpressCard/34" so that you can add in additional Express cards, like FireWire 800 via the Thunderbolt port.

The PR says it should be available in October 2011 for $150.00 and then there is the cost of the Express card too (their Firewire 800 card is $100), so your $250 already before shipping or taxes.

Their is no mention of drivers for it either (especially USB 3), so I'm not sure how that part is going to work.
