Subject: Chameleon sensitivity, Was: Re: Slightly OT larger format camera

Hi Milton:

I'm about to hit the "checkout" button on the color Chameleon, but I was just looking at the Sensor Respose Curve Comparison for the ICX445 Exview HAD Sony ccd, and noticed that the last comparison between the ICS445AQ and the IMX035LQR (CMOS) that's in the Firefly, that the CMOS chip has slightly higher QE than the CCD??  That doesn't seem right.

I'm going with the color version instead of the mono version because I would like to try monitoring planets like Jupiter for impacts one of these days, and would not like having any down-time while I change filters.  I have a atmospheric dispersion corrector that I bought from Adirondack several years ago that I plan on using to minimize dispersion before grabbing video.

High frame rates aren't as much a concern as sensitivity, particularly for those times I want to try Uranus or Neptune imaging with my 12.5" Cass.

Any thoughts?  Or should I just go ahead and hit the checkout button?  ;oD

Hi Raye;

You might also want to look at their Chameleon USB2 camera too.

The mono versions deliver up to 1296x964 @ 18 fps, 8 / 16 bit and is

priced at $375 USD.

In cropped 640x480  hardware ROI the best I got was 30 fps in 16 bit

or 8 bit.

At 1280x960 size I get 15 fps.

You get 8 or 16 bit video in, hardware ROI, GPIO functionality for ST4

port control or arbitrary long exposures and temperature monitoring too.

HTH..
