AIIDC doesn't use Quicktime for recording movies. We can record movies, but I create the entire movie atom structure manually and do not use QuickTime call for that. That's the only way to get good threadable recording in QuickTime or even Cocoa.

The only thing that switching to QT 7 Pro versus QT 10 should affect is play back of movies - not recording them.

The weird part is that I have a MBP Pro 17" running 10.7.2 and mono 8 bit movies play find under Lion whether I use QT 7 or QT 10 players. It's just another inconsistency introduced with Apples marvelous "Lion" OS as they dumb it down and strip out capabilities to match their iDevice inabilities.

Apple made QuickTime an important part of the Mac OS, then they watered it down, reducing its capabilities.

Steve J eliminated QuickTime when they went to a 64 bit OS (Quicktime was the last Apple API left from the NextStep takeover that they had not destroyed). AV Foundation (which is it's replacement) is barely able to create MP4 files (only Apple standard formats allowed), and there will be no other video formats allowed or any third party plugins. That's what the new Final Cut Pro is about - removing options and abilities and why Adobe and Avid are laughing all the way to the bank as Professional Video editors drop Apple in droves.
