Hi Chris;

That MAK 5" scope has superb optics for such a small scope. Here is what I captured of Mars back in the 2005 opposition using MAK 127 mm at F39 and a Flea color camera.

Hi Milton

Using the monochrome camera I can easily go to f30 but if the seeing does not cooperate it just makes no sense.

Wow 5" scope at f39 I have to say these images are great considering the equipment you used.

cheers

Chris

Hi Chris;

Nice image. The Mars actually has a good amount of detail for F20 and it's miniscule size this opposition.

I tried imaging Venus in UV a few weeks back and seeing was so bad at F8 with the AT8RC scope that I didn't bother capturing anything. I could not get it into sharp focus and even using the nearly full moon, it was difficult achieving focus due to rapid high frequency turbulence.

Thanks for sharing..

PS: I did a similar thing under very bad conditions back in 2004:

with an iRez camera, Astro IIDC and a MAK 127 mm scope at F39.

Finally the weather cooperated to shoot some images.

Goal was to show the three well positioned planets in scale.

The image shows how small Mars is during this years opposition. :-(
