Subject: Astro IIDC 4.08.00 A1 Feedback and A2 release data

Hi folks;

I hope to be releasing 4.08.00 Alpha 02 probably tomorrow. I re-wrote the code that estimates Sharpness of frames in Altivec / SSE3 and it's about 10 times (for PowerPC) and 6 times (for x86) faster than the old scalar code. The limit now becomes how fast QuickTime can pull frames from disk and unless your movies are on an SSD with ~280 MB per second read rate, the code can't run any faster.

If anyone has had any issues with the Alpha 01 version, I would appreciate knowing soonest, so I can fix that problem for the Alpha 02 release.
