I have several 1.5 to 3 meter FW800 cables here from PGR and other
companies. I have had problems with thinner cables - especially if
they are bent / flexed a lot over time. The good ones are stiff and at
-45°C are more like steel rods than cable.

There is a preference in iChat to turn it off so it doesn't grab the
camera. Launch iChat, then select "Preferences.." (from the iChat
menu), then click on the Green "Video" icon and when the Video Panel
UNCHECK the "Automatically open iChat when camera is turned on".




Then it won't grab the camera on you.
