Subject: VT and USB 3

Hi Folks;

As it turns out,  I lost 23 (out of 83) gigabytes of video of the VT First and Second contacts due to the 14 month old Hard drive of my new MacBook Pro 17" crapping out. So I may no be able to make a cohesive movie of the event after all.

I ran Tech Tools on it and it found 453 bad blocks, so I'll contact Apple Care monday and see about them replacing the drive under warranty.

The only good news is I picked up my CalDigit USB 3 Express card today and have been using it to back up the LaptTop data  I can extract from different partitions to my 3 terrabyte USB3 drives (Western Digital FlexGo and . So far it works flawlessly and I haven't had any issues at all. I'm not sure what the upper throughput limits are because the 5400 RPM E-Sata Laptop hard drive tops out at about 70 megabytes per second, but the external USB 3 has no problem keeping up at all.

I have more testing to do with the Card, but I'll likely contact Point Grey Research early next week and see if I can get a USB 3 loaner camera sent out for testing.

So with any luck we Mac users will have access to USB 3 cameras going forward.

TTYL..
