Yes but is apple going to "throttle" your usb throughput?

The throughput difference on windows and apple can be troublesome

Hi Folks;

One throughput issue I have been having is that my MBP 17" has a slow drive - topping out at about 65 megabytes per second. Since I still have about 18 months on my Applecare left, I am reluctant to replace the drive with something faster - like an SSD. My Grasshopper 2 camera can deliver 30 fps @ 1384x1036 16 bit over FireWire 800 which is 82 megabytes (MB) per second, so I need at least 90 MB / sec. I'd also like to avoid the using an external drive with need for power and be as portable as possible.

Since I have the USB 3 express card from my failed USB 3 Camera support investigation, I have been looking into USB 3 flash drives that use the Mass Storage protocol. I finally found one :

"Patriot Memory - Supersonic Magnum USB 3.0 Flash Drive"

that looks like it is a winner. It's fairly expensive ($110 CDN for 64 gig / $230 CDN for 128 gig), but the rates are really impressive at 200 MB/Sec read rates and 110 MB/Sec write rates. I have seen 3rd party reviews for Windows with this drive which confirm those through put numbers too.

So if you have a fast IIDC Camera, want to maximize the throughput and have USB 3, you might want to look at it.
