The amperage is the maximum amount of juice you can put in to the Peltier - you can run it lower without any issues.

The current power supply I am using is 3 amps, I get temperature decreases of about 15°C below ambient when the camera is running. When I was shooting sunspots the camera was hitting 50+°C, the sun lit temperature was 43°C and the camera was at 25°C via the cooler.

I am just about to start my 3.5 hour WASP-2B Exoplanet run. It's a tough target at 0.022 mag drop over 108 minutes. The sky is clear, the winds have stopped and the turbulence isn't too bad - so we will see. Ambient temp is 20°C and the Grasshopper 2 camera is right now at 5°C. The uncooled Guide Grasshopper 1 model is 30°C.

I noticed you used the 6 amp cooler but run it at 3.3 amps now..  Quality Kits sells the same cooler but in a 3amp model as well.  I wonder how that would work?  I have 2 power supplies, both rated at 25 amps.  I don't want to have to run out and get a variable power supply with variable amps..

I guess I'll just have to try it..

Hi Dave;

That's the "hot end" of a Peltier Cooler I built. The plans for it are on my web site:
