Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Cooling Fins

Hi Bill;

I have a separate 3 amp power supply for my Peltier cooler and it brings internal case temperature down by 25°C. The HEQ5 needs 2.5 amps to run reliably.

On a side note most of the PGR cameras use the front C-Mount plate as a heat sink. So cooling the piece of metal around the C-Mount would more efficiently cool the Camera -rather than the whole case.

If i had the money, I'd look at building a new metal case or an extended metal front plate for the Grasshoppers that had cold point to cool the CCD "pocket". So it would draw less power and need a smaller fan  as I'm cooling a smaller area.

HTH..

Thanks Milton. I ordered two. It's worth the fourteen bucks to see how well they work. I have a Brass/Copper one of that size with a cooling fan of the same size attached, but haven't tried that yet. I made a Peltier cooler, but it required a large heat sink and fan. Works real well, but does pull lots of power. (enough to require a separate power supply) it overloaded my mount's Pyramid regulated power in about two hours running it with the mount tracking.
