Microsoft will eventually do the same thing with the live store. Its a way to stop malware from running on your pc.
The real reason is for big business to crush the smaller bussinesses by charging a rideculous amount of money for a licence to be on the app/live store. Gotta love the american way!!

I worked in the radio business doing IT for years, and a few years ago a major station owner switched from mac to pc for production and broadcasting.
