I have considered the annual fee, but to make it work  I would need every user whom purchased Astro IIDC version 4 over the past 4 years to pay $100 per year. I suspect I would be exceptionally lucky to get half that, which means to reach the amount of money I need to make this a break even proposition, it would be at least $200+ per year.

So it that just isn't going to work.

Have you considered charging users an annual subscription price to help maintain/develop the software and for technical support? I know some folks would be allergic to this model, but they're likely already paying for subscriptions to Sky& Tel, Astronomy, and countless other magazines which are more transient in nature.

I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee.
