Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] No Golden Key, No Future?

My offer is still on the table to keep the site alive as well as provide any future sales income to Milton.

This is the best I can do on my part, I would appreciate its consideration. I think it's a viable solution.

Hi Jim,

I think David's posts serve a purpose beyond airing frustrations. The example of Adobe's policy to allow a license to be deactivated on an old computer and reactivated on a new one is a good model. The discounted new license has been much appreciated by me as well. I've upgraded several computers during the time I have used the software. It is a tough call for many whether or not to go the expense of the golden key to cover a future computer upgrade or two which would have cost $40 a pop in the past. For users in commercial situations, the path makes more sense and Milton has explained that the golden key is designed with these customers in mind.

There are many on the list who are invested in Milton's software and have proposed donation of time and material towards helping in the financial challenges going forward. In the end, it is of course Milton's decision when and how to end his business. I know that he has been and is continuing to spend considerable time and effort with this decision. I have certainly had my share of experience being a stakeholder in businesses that have closed with much less commitment to their customers and vendors.

I trust that Milton can hear the suggestions and thoughts of long time users at their worth and without taking umbrage. Perhaps some of them might still be of use at this late hour.

best wishes,

Alan

David,

Maybe its time you let your frustrations go - at least on the public
forum side of things. We all know how you feel by now.

Surely you realized that when you purchased your first licence that it
was attached to only one Mac or one camera and that you would have to
purchase new licences in the future when you changed Macs or cameras.
I know that Milton has been very generous to me on at least one
occasion when I changed laptops and he didn't charge me for a new key.
