Subject: New uses for your firewire camera!

I went out for some remote dark site imaging last night, about an hour's drive east of Toronto, in order to pretest a Canon T2i with thin profile OAG system prior to this coming weekend's monster star party, Starfest 2013.  Incidentally I've been invited to speak about my monochrome DSLR conversion project and building an ultraportable 8" f/12 refractor that can transported in a normal car trunk and carried by a normal mount (EQ6) - sorry for the self promotion!

As things normally go, I ripped the micro USB socket out of my Lodestar guide camera and had to send it off to the UK for repairs leaving me guideless.  Until I remembered that Craig Stark's PHD guide program for OSX also includes firewire DCAM support for the TIS line of cameras.  DCAM is DCAM so I tried one of my PGR Scorpions ... it worked.  And I got it to come to focus and guide through the OAG.

Here's M31 from last night, stack of 25, four minute subexposures.

I learned that I desperately need to include a field flattener and dew strap for my next attempt.
