Hi Stephen,  I downloaded the  Mac OS-X 0.3 oOCapture software and have been trying it out. I’ve just tried it on my cameras with no lens,  just sitting on the desk connected.  It puts up a preview image from my IS DBK camera and sort of works but was difficult to change settings and crashed a few times.  I get a big grid of what looks like the sensor sites? Might be something to do with debayering the color?    It seems to work pretty well with my PGR Scorpion camera as I could change settings and put up a ‘normal’ looking preview.  Both seemed to work on my MacMini (64 bit) but on my older 32bit  macbook pro it wouldn’t let me save a file, which it does on the mini.  Both run Mavericks.   I don’t see any place on the webpage to email comments, so maybe you can pass this along if of interest to the developer?   Or perhaps send me their email?

Something else - a few years I bought (from Orion) a USB Video capture device for copying old analog videos and running an NTSC video camera once in a while for astronomy.   It uses software called EZCAP.   I had never thought to try this until now, but I started it up with my FW cameras and it recognized and operates with both of them, as IIDC Firewire Video!   It has a number of video file outputs including MPEG 4, so I presume that could be used to stack frames from.  Its not as astronomy oriented but it does have frame rate and video control settings.  I’ve got version 1.01 and they have updated versions for download, so I presume they would still work, but haven’t tried them. You might try it out and see if its something that would work for you.

Ron,

Im working with a guy in the UK to make some outreach software that will power USB and Firewire cams for outreach.  it is quite intuitive.  Its not ASTRO IIDC, and nothing else will ever be, but since many of us have tens of thousands of dollars invested in Mac based outreach setups, I have spent a great deal of time and money trying to convince someone to help.

If more Mac people would have simply purchased ASTRO IIDC…  we would still have this wonderful software.
