Hi Stephen;

ECC is Error Correcting Code memory.

The only time it could be an issue if you mix ECC and non ECC ram in the same computer.

Without seeing the crash  logs, I can't tell what is exactly crashing - whether it's Astro IIDC or some other app or component or plugin. And I'm not sure if there is anything I can do about it either.

However, if Astro IIDC works fine in prior OS versions, then it's an El Capitan Apple issue. And from looking at all the El Capitan issues when searching Google / Bing / Yahoo for the phrase:

el capitan issues

and seeing 30+ pages of complaints including phrases like "El Crapitan", well one has to wonder what Apple is doing for Q&A testing before releasing software into the market place.

It might be possible to use AppleScript to script around it, but it isn't easy. I never implemented a AppleScript command to process movies because people don't want to script, so I made it so you can batch by single or multiple movies in auto mode manually. The main issue there is no definitive method to tell when Astro IIDC has finished processing the movie so you can tell it to quit to clean out the memory releasing that Apple isn't handling any more, then relaunch it and process the next movie. But there is no way to reliable know when it is finished. Although I can describe the possible process that would work, I know it will fail under multiple scenarios because you don't have any direct way to talk to Astro IIDC about what it's doing.

Sorry, but I don't have any concrete solutions to work around - except to hope that Apple gives a damn and actually tries to fix the software they keep breaking.

Milton,

Apparently,

ASTRO IIDC on one of my older MacBook Pros will stack all the movies I want of any size without a problem.  The newer 2012 Mac Pro Westmere 12 core/64GB RAM that I just got 2 weeks ago is hanging up on almost every movie.  These two computers have the same exact hard drive contents.  The big difference is that the Mac Pro uses a fancy 4GB video card.

I have included the specs of each machine to see if you wouldn’t mind looking to see if you can see any issues with the new one that might be causing the issue?

I noticed that something called “ECC” was disabled on the older MacBook Pro in the memory section bt it was enabled on the new Mac Pro.  Is this something?
