Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] Camera long exposures [1 Attachment]

Hi Stephen;

The Grasshopper 2 (Model GS2-FW-14S5) is the least muss / fuss camera for doing long exposures.

Here is a 60 second (shot with AstroTech RC 8" F8 scope at prime focus) LRGB composite of 4 overlapping framse of M42 that It stretch processed in Astro IIDC:

Seeing started off fairly good for the bottom right frames, but got progressively worse as time progressed.

The other Flea / Grasshoppers / Chameleons with GPIO ports can be configured to give long exposures too, but it requires connecting some pins up (or wires if PGR included the Hirose wired harness for it) and then setting some check boxes in the Preferences.

The details for this are described on page 113 entitled "Hardware Modifications Information" of the Astro IIDC manual. With the HR 25 and HR 10 sockets, you can actually connect the pins up by taking a small thin piece of wire, bending it into a "U", slipping both ends into the correct socket holes, and then securing it in the holes with a piece of tape. So it doesn't take a lot of work to connect them up.

The Chameleon requires you to use the supplied GPIO connector which has the wires attached, and you simply need to connect up wire 3 and 4 together and set some preferences in Astro IIDC.

Hope that helps..

Okay then, no recommendations for the camera.  Maybe someone can tell me what I am not doing to allow my several PGR Grasshoppers and Fleas to be able to image over 2 seconds or 4 seconds.  I am trying to get them to image about 4 minute frames.  Is there something I should click in ASTRO IIDC?
