Subject: Re: [Astro_IIDC] using MBP T-bolt w/ FW ?

Thanks for the info Kevin.  Good to hear it works for your programs with the adapter.   After seeing many conflicting reviews of the adapters on the apple website, I decided to ‘compromise’ for now and bought an apple refurbed MBP mid-2012  that has 2 USB 3, one T-bolt and still has 1 FW 800 port on it.   Not only less expensive, but can use one of the new USB 3 cameras if/when I get one and of course my old FW cameras and AstroIIDC.

Hi Ron, we use a new-ish Mac mini and the Apple Thunderbolt-to-FW800 adapter into a FW800 4-port hub to control our three cameras (PGR Flea3 FW800 2MP Mono), and this works fine.  We do experience camera freezes from time to time, but I've never been able to pin down the culprit (camera, hub, Mac, or Astro IIDC), but I don't have any reason to think that it's necessarily Astro IIDC that's the cause.
