Stephen,

A shorter snout for the grasshopper? That might also help with reducer placement. Can you tell me more? I'm kinda new to these cameras (since yesterday).

When you have time,

Yup.. sounds familiar.

I use heavy duty cables from cable warehouse.  They are about $20 for a 15 footer.  I have some 75 footers that I use for various STEM broadcasts to big screen that run about $100.  In my opinion, you cant buy a good enough cable for these cameras…dont cheap out.  lol  I'd definitely carry a spare as well.  One little crimp and you start getting all sorts of weird issues.  You can buy a shorter snout for the camera online also if you have any back focus issues.

Stephen,

I recently bought a brand new 15' Chinese FireWire cable for $9.95. Why didn't I think that could be the problem? I plugged in a short cable from a FW hard drive and am getting full frame rate at all resolutions. Man, am I relieved! Thank you.

Incidentally, I bought the camera primarily for solar.

Have you used a different FireWire cord?  Also, make sure nothing else is using your FireWire bus before you plug it in.

IE, boot your computer with the GX plugged in.

From my iPhone (sorry if it's short)

Hi all,
I know it's been a while and I hope there is still some one here who can assist.
I just purchased a new Point Grey Grasshopper Express camera, firewire version to use with Astro IIDC. Plugged it in and was recognized in Astro IIDC with a lot more options than my old DMK 31 cam. Now here's the issue, I get about 1 second of live video before it freezes. If I change shutter speed or frame rate I get another second of video before freezing again. Seems like it loads and reads from a buffer then stops.
I've checked numerous settings but maybe I missed something. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Phil
