That sounds like a power issue then.
Does the dock have it’s own power supply?
According to specs, Thunderbolt is max 30 volts and 9.9 watts - but likely does much less than that.
A FW800 Grasshopper requires 8 to 30 volts volts and max of 4.7 watts as a point of reference.
USB 3 is always 5 volts and a max of 0.75 amps, so much lower power draw and likely why the Chameleon works.

I think it's plug and play, but I can look on the OWC website and find out if I might have missed them. But I think you're right about the power. The lights on the pike flickered, but neither camera's LED stayed on.
I wonder if I might need to plug another thunderbolt c cable between the port on the doc and the computer, because the one connecting the two at present is also charging the battery in the computer (I spilled water on the Apple power supply and murdered it.)
