Hi Tim;

Good to hear it works for you.

One of the issues with Thunderbolt is that it delivers up to 18 volts,  0.55 amps and 9.9 Watts of power.

FireWire 800 can deliver up to 30 volts, 1.5 amps and 45 watts of power.

The technical spec for Scorpion 2 mbps (Scor-20SO) indicates maximum draw of 3.5 watts.

So Thunderbolt “should” have enough power to support one or maybe 2 cameras powered off the Mac.

If your OWC Dock is powered, then it should supply enough power to run 2 FireWire cameras without any issue. However, I can't find any mention of what the maximum power output they have on FireWire. You might have to ask them if they know what the maximum wattage out is.

Oddly enough, if you read the Apple Thunderbolt to FireWire converter spec, they only supply a maximum of 7 watts of power which means they can likely only support one camera at a time.

HTH..

Today is the first time I have had the chance to test one of my firewire cameras with the OWC Thunderbolt Dock 3 (with a firewire 800 port).  At first, the camera wouldn't power on.  So I restarted everything and it did.  I brought along 2 of my Scorpion 2mp cameras to try.  One's grayscale, the other color.

So I'll just make sure I don't update the OS beyond Mojave so I can keep using it to run Astro IIDC.
