Hi Rodolphe, I got that done no problem in the end! I had someting similar with an Allen key & internal connection recently with which it was difficult to locate the Allen socket inside but this was OK...Thanks,

It is to unlock the ring so that you can turn it to adjust the back focal. If it's not properly tight, the ring will move in the way you describe.
